The Reckless
Squanderer
This
is a story of a man who all through his life lived a complicated life. According
to him, being born and brought up into a wealthy family was his birth right and
none can deprive him from it. He had no value for money hence spent a large
amount in shopping, gifting, clubbing etc. due to that he faced many mood
swings to as sometimes he would be happy and sometimes he would sadden down. Besides
all this, he never bothered about his family or relatives for all he cared was
just a group of selected friends that he himself had chosen by. He inflexibly believed
that any human being has two independent rights in life: firstly to choose his
or her life partner and the second to choose his friends and according to him
all the rest are destined because any human being cannot choose his complexion,
body structure, his family or his relatives for its all given to him by God.
Because
of his unnatural thinking he used to cheat his parents, grandparents and sometimes
even steal from them and spend it on his friends. Moreover he also managed to
save a substantial amount into his bank account. His friends continuously
boosted his spirits high by saying that each of them were lucky to have him
amongst their group and enjoyed extravagantly on his cost. The poor man was ignorant of the fact that
these so-called best friends were simply using him and nothing else.
His
parents were sparingly upset of such an unusual lifestyle, hence along with
other family members tried their best to make him understand and see the correct
side of the picture, but all their efforts were in otiose as his mind was blank
and ears were deaf. It was then, when his parents decided to show him the real truth
and as planned asked him to stay separately with a monthly remuneration of fixed
amount as his pocket money. He was indeed excited at this new given opportunity
for total independence without any restrictions.
Days
passed and he was extremely happy with his new lifestyle. The pocket money
given by his parents was not enough to meet his expenditures, hence he started
withdrawing from his hidden account to satisfy the demands of his friends.
Slowly and slowly the funds were drying out and he was unaware of the
consequences till then. When the bank account was exhausted, he switched over
to his credit cards and used it to the maximum.
It was when his friends started disappearing slowly and one day he
found himself all alone with no money and no friends left around him. This shattered
him to pieces and with utter desperation he went out in search of them.
Where
some refused to meet him, there some rejected him; others abused him on his
face turning his life upside down completely leaving him lost and isolated. He once
again went from place to place in search for help but his efforts was of
no use. He did not have the courage to
go back home to his parents and family because he now was guilty of treating
them in an excruciating manner as he had not even adhered to their advice some
time back. He had hurt them in numerous ways and now felt ashamed to face
them after all this. Depressed, distraught and totally broken, he spent hours
and hours sitting on the streets and parks all alone.
One
day he came across a good soul, Rahul, who had once offered him a hand of
friendship that he had pompously refused just because he was not in the good
books of his friends. Seeing him in such a shabby condition, Rahul advised him
to go home back to his family and he flatly refused. Rahul tried his best to
convince him but did not succeed. As he was good at heart, Rahul always kept a
watch on him, when on a sunny day he found him lying down flat unattended
and untouched on the street. Rahul immediately came into action and with the
help of passers-by managed to take him to the hospital where he got him
admitted. His condition appeared to be
rather serious and was well aware that no miracle was expected, he felt it was
his duty to inform his parents of the situation. Some times as we say that good
times come unexpected, it had come to him too, his parents came to his rescue and
took the best care of him. Thousands were spent on his recovery and both mother
and father hugged him with immense love and affection. His mother cuddled him
hard and firmly resolved that he will not stay alone anymore. Both the parents
felt highly obliged towards Rahul who had indirectly moved ahead and helped him
to recover and re - unite. He had definitely proved to be his true friend.
Having
friends is not bad but choosing them is definitely important because where
a good friend is capable of changing your life, there a bad friend ruins your
life too and above all this, just love and trust your family always because it
is each of them who will always stand by you in the odd times, especially in
the hour of great need. Friends are also
important as it is because of them that we are able to ascertain the difference
amongst the right and wrong.
“You may get thousands of
friends in a day, but to get a single good friend it can take a thousand days
because even if you have nothing in life except a good friend, , mind you,
YOU’RE RICH.”
